  • The Clarksville-Montgomery County Friends of the Library is marking its 50th anniversary this April after five decades of supporting the community library and literacy programs. The group will hold its Spring Used Book Sale starting April 24—with a friends-only preview from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—and open sessions from April 25 to April 27 for everyone to join.  ClarksvilleNow.com

  • The Clarksville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have issued a Silver Alert for David Shepherd—70-year-old white man with blond hair and brown eyes—last seen on foot along Commerce Street and North Second Street and ask anyone with information to call 911.  ClarksvilleNow.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe weather cycle hit Middle Tennessee Wednesday night into Thursday morning and killed at least three people in McNairy, Obion and Fayette counties while heavy rain stalled vehicles on I-65 and caused a rollover on I-40—schools closed Thursday as Gov. Bill Lee declared a State of Emergency, with forecasts predicting Nashville to get 5–6 inches and Clarksville 8–10 inches of rain by the weekend—preparing officials for more dangerous conditions.  The Leaf Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held back water at Cumberland River dams on Thursday to lower flood risks in Clarksville after heavy rains fell overnight. Officials will adjust dam releases as more rain is expected Saturday and Sunday—flood warnings remain for nearby roads and properties.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • On Thursday night, the Clarksville City Council voted down a proposal to change one acre north of West Concord Drive from single-family to multi-family zoning after council members and local residents raised concerns about rising flood risks and dangerous traffic—the vote was unanimous at 0—13. Reda Homebuilders argued that the flooding was fixable, but the council held firm to protect the area from future hazards.  ClarksvilleNow.com
