ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A sinkhole opened in the Nelsons' backyard in Clarksville after county officials pumped millions of gallons of storm water into the Farmington Basin and inadvertently overflowed it—leaving the family worried about further damage from upcoming rains as they await direction and $500,000 in emergency repair funding was approved.  WSMV 4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Austin Peay State University announced today that it has invested $51,000 in a campus-wide artificial intelligence training program after the Board of Trustees approved the plan on April 11—supporting training for faculty, staff, and student certification. The initiative will begin immediately with an AI symposium scheduled for October and additional phases planned to fully integrate AI into teaching and administrative tasks.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • Austin Peay State University announced a three-year partnership with Coleman Tractor Company and Kubota Tractor Corporation that will equip its agricultural programs at the newly renamed Coleman Tractor APSU Farm Powered by Kubota—updated equipment will be provided for hands-on student learning and farm operations; a ribbon cutting on March 18th marked the beginning of this initiative.  Clarksville Online
  • Austin Peay State University was named Tennessee’s first VETS Bravo Campus by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission during a ceremony on April 14 at its Newton Military Family Resource Center—recognizing its three-year VETS status and strong support for military affiliated students. The university, which serves 30% military students and nearly 3,200 in total, offers programs like its Military Affiliated Professionals Program to help veterans transition to careers.  ClarksvilleNow.com

  • The Clarksville Gas and Water Department closed Collinwood Drive from Melinda Drive to Christine Drive for a water service line repair that is expected to finish by 3:30 p.m.—Motorists are urged to use detours and slow down near utility workers.  Clarksville Online

  • Tickets are now available for the 36th annual Bill Hoy Kiwanis Rodeo, which will take place May 15-17 at the Montgomery County 4H Arena—sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Clarksville to benefit local children. The three-night PRCA Pro rodeo will feature events such as riding, roping, racing, and special pre-events for students while offering additional attractions like a petting zoo and bounce house.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • The Clarksville Wildcats won 8—3 against the Rossview Hawks on Tuesday in game two of their rivalry series as strong third and fourth inning hitting built an early lead. Wildcats’ home runs by Kayden Pledger and Jack Wyatt and relief pitching by Kirk Weatherford helped secure the win even though the Hawks out‐hit them 10—6.  ClarksvilleNow.com
