- ➤ APSU's Art + Design department recently hosted a creative arts field trip for third graders at Barksdale Elementary Spanish Immersion Program, supported by the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts—Professor Rachel Bush led sessions in sculpture, photography, animation, drawing and printmaking. - ➤ Councilman Jerry Haywood proposed a six-month pause on new building, grading and construction permits plus a 180-day halt on rezoning applications to let city departments study the flooding issues after heavy rains early in April. The measure, set for review today by the Finance Committee and expiring Oct. 31 with an assessment due 30 days before, faces opposition from Mayor Joe Pitts who warns that the pause may raise housing costs — impacting the construction industry. - ➤ Local voters can choose the boys high school athlete of the week for April 14-20 as the poll, open until noon on Thursday, invites nominations from several sports disciplines. Last week's winner was Northeast baseball junior Isaiah Robinson + candidates include track, soccer, and baseball stars from area schools. The Leaf Chronicle
- ➤ The poll is open to vote for the Clarksville area girls high school athlete of the week for April 14-20—voting closes at noon on Thursday. - ➤ The Austin Peay State University track and field team competed in California at Long Beach State’s Beach Invitational and Azusa Pacific’s Bryan Clay Invitational where Ashley Doyle ran the 5,000-meter in 18:08.91, Taylah Upshaw clocked 58.51 in the 400-meter dash and 2:17.77 in the 800-meter, Sydney Freeman posted 4:50.27 in the 1,500-meter, and Grabielle Hoskins ran the 100-meter dash in 12.32 to finish fourth in her section.
