ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Clarksville father warned parents about water dangers after his 12-year-old son drowned in the Red River at Billy Dunlop Park on May 18 when the boy swam near other children and his body was recovered four days later — his father, unable to swim, could only watch the tragedy unfold. - ➤ The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce named Clarksville Elite Gymnastics Center Veteran Business of the Month after 25 years of growth from eight to 2,000 students (led by retired Army veteran Larry Corrigan). - ➤ The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center in Clarksville is presenting the exhibition Embracing Blackness Diasporic Unions that celebrates Tennessee Black artists and their rich cultural heritage. - ➤ The Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board approved a policy that will ban cellphones from classrooms all day starting next school year to help improve school safety and focus on learning – students can use phones only for emergencies or medical needs and will face warnings or confiscation for violations. Bill Lee signed a law yesterday requiring elementary schools to provide 40 minutes of unstructured, screen-free recess daily after local CMCSS moms pushed for a change — the bill passed both the House and Senate with near unanimous votes and the group now plans to focus on improving middle school recess, having received interest from 12 states — ClarksvilleNow.com
- ➤ Austin Peay State University received a $1.94 million grant—awarded by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission—to launch RISE TN, a project that will expand healthcare training and job opportunities in rural counties such as Maury and Marshall. The initiative will run from August 1st to July 31st and partner with local centers—Maury Regional Medical Center and Marshall Medical Center—to offer hands-on training programs for students and adult learners.
