Clarksville Parks and Recreation will replace the playground at Ewing Burchett Park when demolition begins June 11 and new equipment arrives June 16.

The project is funded by donations from the Community Health Foundation — the new play space features netted climbing structures, a dome-shaped rope course, swings, a slide and soft rubber surfacing for safety and accessibility.

Dr. Mike Licari, president of Austin Peay State University, was chosen to lead the Clarksville Chamber’s Executive Committee at its 120th Annual Dinner and Gala—he will work to boost workforce development and strengthen ties between APSU and local businesses.

His appointment follows years of academic success and community leadership and signals a new chapter in local economic growth.

On Friday at 9:35 p.m. — responding to a 911 call at a convenience store on the 900 block of Crossland Avenue — Clarksville police found one person injured from gunshot wounds and are asking anyone with surveillance footage to come forward.

On June 5, the Clarksville Writers Conference celebrated its 20th year with three days of workshops and sessions held at the Austin Peay State University Art and Design Building and the F and M Bank Franklin Room.

The event featured local and regional writers including New York Times columnist Margaret Renkl, who was honored with the Patricia Winn Award for Excellence in Southern Writing.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System announced new leadership appointments on June 5, with Chris Jackson replacing Kevin Scott as Building Maintenance Manager and Dr. Kim Hass, Ashley Polk, and Christina Rogers starting roles at the Burt Innovation Center, Kenwood High, and Rossview Elementary (each appointment strengthens the district's leadership team).

APSU announced a new multiyear deal with Taymar Sales U— a first for college sports that covers ticket sales, sponsorships and annual giving.

A five-person team from Taymar will work on campus to boost revenue and strengthen support for the athletics program.
