GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Highway Safety Office, with help from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local law enforcement, is running the Safe on Seventy campaign for Independence Day weekend to cut risky driving and lower crash rates. The effort runs from noon on July 3 until midnight on July 6 — it adds seat belt checks and tough rules on speeding and impaired driving — to help keep Highway 70 safe.  Clarksville Online
  • On June 20, two Clarksville Police officers graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy—officer Jonathon Heath earned the Tactical Driving Award. They will begin post-academy in-house training followed by a 14-week Field Training Officer Program before joining patrol shifts to serve the community.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • City officials broke ground on the Red River Pedestrian Bridge on July 1 near Kraft Street; the $5.8 million project will link the Red River East and (APSU) trails to the Pollard Road Trail for 11 miles of greenway while two Greenway sections remain closed until its planned completion in March 2026.  Main Street Clarksville

  • A study coauthored by an APSU professor shows that early lead exposure in cities shortened men's lives by nearly one year—research based on data for 783,483 individuals highlights a long-term risk from old water systems and the need for safer pipes in the future.  Clarksville Online
