- ➤ AAA data from Stacker showed that on August 4 regular gas in Tennessee was $2.77 and diesel was $3.44, with both prices dropping by $0.01 from last week and falling by $0.32 and $0.11 from last year—Johnson City had the highest regular gas price at $2.82 while Clarksville-Hopkinsville was among the lower-priced areas at $2.71. - ➤ Tennessee’s new Direct Admissions program will send eligible high school seniors acceptance letters with financial aid estimates in November—eliminating fees and paperwork. More than 50 colleges—including all Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology, community colleges, and universities—will join the pilot to simplify access for over 41,000 students. The Leaf Chronicle
- ➤ Tennessee schools have implemented a new state law banning cell phones during classes—exceptions include phone use in emergencies and during lunch for high school students while parents are urged to model healthy screen habits at home. - ➤ Local leaders gathered on July 29 at Wilma Rudolph Event Center to review a new housing study commissioned by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission. The report finds a gap of more than 15,000 housing units—spanning subsidized, rental, and for-sale homes—and calls for options at every price point to meet future demand. Main Street Clarksville
- ➤ The Tennessee Wars Commission said the 2025 grant cycle for the Civil War Sites Preservation Fund (CWSPF) will begin on August 11 and offer $3.2 million to help save historic Civil War and Underground Railroad sites.
