BUSINESS NEWS

  • Clarksville Foundry announced that its Model 1841 6-Pounder Field Gun— a historic cannon used in early wars— has advanced to the top 16 in the Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee contest. Voting began on Aug. 5 and will run through Aug. 12 as the foundry asks the community for support to reach the top 8.  ClarksvilleNow.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local youth bring a family-friendly version of Seussical JR.—a 60-minute musical based on Dr. Seuss—to the Roxy Regional Theatre from Friday, August 15 through Sunday, August 24 with shows in the afternoons and evenings and ticket options for all ages.  Clarksville Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tennessee elementary students now have 40 minutes of daily recess thanks to a new state law championed by Clarksville moms — the local school system increased recess from about 15 to 20 minutes previously to 30 minutes last year. The longer break is expected to help students focus better in class.  NewsChannel 5
  • Students at Clarksville High School had a half-day on Wednesday to start the 2025-26 school year—Director Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder and school board members joined the cheer squad in welcoming many students, and they will have their first full day on Aug. 11.  ClarksvilleNow.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Clarksville Gas and Water Department turned off water on Jefferson Street from North First Street to North Second Street for a water main leak repair—motorists must detour via North First and North Second and may experience low water pressure until about 3:30 p.m.  Clarksville Online
  • Repaving and repainting of Outlaw Road is complete — the road is open to traffic in west Montgomery County. Paving on Dunbar Road in Woodlawn is finished and repainting will begin soon.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • Sen. Marsha Blackburn announced she is running for governor to boost Tennessee’s conservative leadership — a move that ended months of speculation. The Brentwood senator made her bid on Aug. 6th and will face Rep. John Rose in the primary election on Aug. 6th, 2026.  The Leaf Chronicle
  • Clarksville Gas and Water Department will turn off water today at 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Friday for water valve replacement work in the Old Russellville Pike and Rossview Road areas — traffic will be detoured via Joy Drive, Sanders Road, and Rossview Road with low water pressure expected during the outage.  Clarksville Online
