- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville wrapped up a summer of fun for local youth with events—games at City Forum, ice skating at Ford Ice Center, and a Back-to-School Splash Party at Providence Pool. Local partners including the Nashville Predators Foundation and the Rotary Clubs helped sponsor the programs and provided school supplies for Littles to get ready for the upcoming school year. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center will host a free painting workshop for adults 16 and older on Sunday, August 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Local artist Sarah Spillers will teach participants how to paint food and snacks while materials are provided and registration is required due to limited space. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Roxy Regional Theatre School of the Arts in Clarksville will accept registrations for its Fall 2025 session that will run from August 16 to December 13 and offer beginner/intermediate classes for ages 8 to 12 on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (for younger students) and intermediate/advanced classes for ages 13 to 18 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (for older students). Classes will not meet on October 18 or November 29 and registration will close at noon on August 15 with limited space. Clarksville Online
- ➤ Austin Peay State University announced that recent graduates Jacob Gunter and Christian Taliento were selected for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program and will head to Japan this fall to work as assistant language teachers—sponsored by the Japanese government. - ➤ TDOT began resurfacing I-24 and other major highways on August 8, with nightly work from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. through mid-August—motorists are urged to use alternate routes and obey reduced speed limits in work zones. Clarksville Online
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The 150-year-old Gill-Masonic Lodge building (631 Franklin St.) was torn down Friday morning in Clarksville because it was beyond repair. Built in 1871 as the home of former Mayor Mike Sullivan, the building later served as a Masonic Lodge and was sold to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church after demolition plans began in 2014.
