- ➤ At the Downtown Artist Co-op’s First Thursday Art Walk reception, the winners of the 2025 Juried Art Expo were announced with over 100 works entered by 48 artists. Local artist Jacob Carroll’s drawing “Tremont Stream” won Best in Show and watercolor artist Steve Chlupsa earned the People’s Choice award— the exhibit at 96 Franklin Street will run through Aug. 29. - ➤ Austin Peay State University’s College of STEM announced that four professors earned tenure effective July 1 — Dr. Marylu Dalton, Dr. Eugene Donev, Dr. Mir Hasan and Dr. Saeed Samadi-Dana received the distinction after showing strong commitment in teaching, research and service. - ➤ APSU graduate Cavelle McGrath got her hood from her mother Dr. Marsha Lyle-Gonga on Aug.8 after she had heart surgery, became a new mom, and moved several times to earn her doctorate in educational leadership—she now works as dean of students at Great Hearts Academies and says her mom helped her succeed. - ➤ Austin Peay State University is starting a beginner American Sign Language course on September 3 at APSU where classes meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. - ➤ APSU soccer played to a scoreless draw against UT Martin on Sunday at Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin. UT Martin took a total of 20 shots while APSU managed 7 and junior keeper Lauryn Berry made 10 saves. Clarksville Online
- ➤ The Austin Peay State University volleyball team won a 4-1 exhibition game against Tusculum on Sunday at Dunn Center — Dani Kopacz and Nya Browne led key plays in a game with close sets. - ➤ The Northeast High Eagles traveled to a stadium in Hopkinsville and won 48-20 against the Christian County Colonels in their season opener.
