EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Farm Bureau donated funds to create an agriculture endowment for junior and senior APSU majors. The scholarship supports full-time students with a minimum 2.85 GPA and gives preference to local high school graduates—managed by the APSU Foundation to help build future agricultural leaders.  Main Street Clarksville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the City Council approved the first reading of a 200-acre rezoning proposal for a major retailer near Governors Square Mall—this project is expected to bring up to 800 jobs and $6.5 million in annual sales tax revenue while the developer plans road upgrades and an extension of Spring Creek Parkway with a major announcement after the second reading next month.  ClarksvilleNow.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Despite outbreaks in neighboring states such as Kentucky and North Carolina, Tennessee has recorded no human rabies cases this year even though 23 animal cases were reported by August 30 — the CDC tracks the virus across all states except Hawaii.  WSMV 4

SPORTS NEWS

  • F2CON returns today at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center through September 7 with esports tournaments featuring Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear and a $10,000 bonus pool—families can enjoy open play zones, interactive vendors and food trucks throughout the weekend. Austin Peay State University’s Govs Gaming team will face MTSU in a four-on-four Tekken 8 match on Saturday at noon live on Twitch with a watch party at APSU’s Morgan University Center.  Clarksville Online
  • On Sunday, Sept. 7, the Titans will open their NFL season against the Broncos in Denver with Cam Ward starting at quarterback as the team begins a major rebuild — the game will air nationwide on Fox at 3:05 p.m. and can be streamed on Fubo with a free trial.  The Leaf Chronicle
  • Clarksville High and Rossview High will compete today for the Warfield Shield on TV by MyTV30 Sports—part of the Friday Night Rivals series—marking their 24th rivalry game.
