EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tennessee lawmakers passed a new law that will require every public and charter school student to receive firearm safety training starting with lessons on distinguishing real from fake guns in early grades and advancing to detailed instruction through high school—covering topics such as safe storage and what to do if a firearm is found. State agencies have issued guidance for teachers to implement these lessons beginning next school year.  WKRN
  • Dr. Stefan Woltmann, a professor at Austin Peay State University, will speak about bird migration at the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center’s lecture series on Sept. 7 from 3-4 p.m. at Turner Auditorium, and admission is free plus registration is required to secure a spot.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • In late June the STEM team at Austin Peay let students use the on-campus greenhouse again after storms damaged it, and they prepared for Athena's bloom on Fourth of July weekend.   • The Clarksville Gas and Water Department is addressing complaints about an earthy taste and musty odor in the tap water that are caused by natural algae blooms amid recent warm, dry weather.
