  • The 29th annual Best of Clarksville event will be held on October 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Governor’s Square Mall, where 3,000 to 4,000 residents will vote for local businesses and raise funds for nonprofits (the event raised $127,000 in 2024).  Clarksville Online
  • Hundreds of residents attended the Saturday grand opening of the new North Branch Library and Montgomery County Animal Services shelter at 435 Jordan Road.   • Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open a new organic grocery store off MLK Parkway on Fire Station Road—bringing fresh food to Clarksville, an assistant football coach left a game while praying with students, and the Dunlop House is under review for the National Register of Historic Places. APSU hit a record enrollment of 11,185 while proposals for middle school sports, a push for arena football in 2026, a political endorsement from Mark Green, and expansions by Smalls Sliders and Joker’s Comedy House show many local changes underway.  ClarksvilleNow.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family lost two pets and their home in a fire on Jim Kim Road on Friday as Montgomery County Fire Service crews battled the blaze until about 9:30 p.m.—no injuries were reported and the American Red Cross is helping the family.  WSMV 4

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2nd Annual Ink Masters Tattoo Expo—held at Wilma Rudolph Event Center—drew large crowds over its 4-day run as dozens of vendors and about 40 artists from California, Texas, and Florida planned to serve more than 400 local and visiting clients.  Clarksville Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Austin Peay State University announced a five-year partnership with Maury Regional Health to create two endowed funds that will help support students in Medical Laboratory Sciences and Nursing. The funds will finance new simulation spaces, clinical training, and equipment purchases over the next two years and beyond.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • The APSU Mathematics and Statistics Department earned a Maynard Family Fund of Excellence Grant to fund three projects—a data science summer camp that began in June, a workshop series for career readiness, and a Sonia Kovalevsky event to inspire young math students.  Clarksville Online

  • The APSU football team gained 700 yards of offense and seven rushing touchdowns to beat Morehead State 56-7 in its home opener at Fortera Stadium on Saturday—The Governors will face Abilene Christian on September 20th at 7:00 p.m. in their next conference game.  Clarksville Online
  • APSU volleyball lost 3—0 to Air Force on Saturday at the SIUE Cougar Classic in Edwardsville. The match saw the Govs fall in all sets as Air Force outplayed them throughout.  Clarksville Online
  • On Friday night, Montgomery County football teams played as Clarksville beat Overton by 35 to 14 with quarterback Kayden Pledger throwing two touchdown passes—Rossview lost to Hendersonville by 33 to 14, Kirkwood beat Northeast by 28 to 12, Northwest won over Montgomery Central by 12 to 6, Kenwood defeated West Creek by 11 to 0, and Nashville Christian topped Clarksville Academy by 58 to 0.  Main Street Clarksville
  • On Friday, the Northwest Vikings beat the Montgomery Central Indians 12-0 at Montgomery Central High School in a tough defensive game. Demarcus Andrews scored two touchdowns later that gave the Vikings their second win of the season — they now have more wins than in the last two seasons combined.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • Kenwood High won the 17th Battle of the Mill with an 11-0 victory at West Creek High when senior Vandarious Hammonds scored a late touchdown—helping regain the trophy after a three-year losing streak.  ClarksvilleNow.com
