COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Clarksville will host the 29th BestofClarksville event on October 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Governor’s Square Mall—3,000 to 4,000 residents will vote for favorite local businesses while funds raised will support local nonprofits, building on over $1 million donated since 1996.  Clarksville Online
  • The annual Women of Clarksville Expo will be held Saturday, September 20th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center with special guest Tracy Kornet leading Lady Talk sessions on menopause, nutrition, and stress management. The free event focuses on women’s health and wellness and will include over fifty vendors, food trucks, prize giveaways, and designated parking with free bus service from the CMCSS building.  Clarksville Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scriptless in Seattle, the touring improv musical comedy group, will perform two shows at the Roxy Regional Theatre on September 19th and 20th at 7:00 p.m. each night—offering audience-driven sketches, songs, and games for all ages.  Clarksville Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • APSU opened its new state-of-the-art Health Professions Building this week in Clarksville—covering 114,000 square feet at a cost of about $105 million to provide hands-on training in nursing, speech pathology, and lab work. The facility aims to ease the region’s health care void and support staffing needs for new hospitals coming to the area.  WKRN
  • At Cumberland Elementary, about 100 students learned how Tennessee produce goes from local farms to market when Walmart and Southern Valley Produce hosted a farm-to-school event on Sept. 16 — local Rep. Vincent Dixie and Walmart associates explained healthy eating and supply chain details to supplement classroom lessons.  WSMV 4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Clarksville Gas and Water Department announced that an overnight water outage will begin today at 10:00 p.m. on Fort Campbell Boulevard, Cunningham Lane, Concord Drive, Bunker Hill Road, and Meadowbrook Drive for a valve replacement project. Additional road closures will start at 5:00 p.m.—detours are in place as service and roads are expected to be restored by 6:00 a.m. Friday.  Clarksville Online
  • Fort Campbell closed Gate 7 on September 2nd for repairs and to reduce flood risks. Ripcord Road between Glider Road and 59th Street will close to all through traffic on September 22nd for about one month—drivers should allow extra travel time.  Clarksville Online
  • Rutherford County SRO officers Dustin Cox and John Acton discussed plans for a Sept. 27 Golf Tournament at Old Fort Park Golf Course that will raise funds for students in need and special needs children in area schools. They also reviewed efforts to install security screens in all RCS public schools and addressed how cell phones and speeding affect youth while SRO Chad Dodson will offer a class to help young drivers become safer.  WGNS
  • Citizens in Montgomery County are urged to cast early ballots for the Special Primary Election on October 7th to fill a vacancy in the U.S. House seat for District 7—early voting continues through October 2nd and voters must bring valid photo ID to the polls.  Clarksville Online

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Homeowners in Tennessee worry that cooler weather will drive spiders indoors, so The Home Depot and Reddit suggest sealing gaps—storing food securely and removing clutter to reduce hiding spots.   • The Clarksville High Wildcats swept the Rossview Hawks on Tuesday night in a volleyball match at their main gym, improving their season record to 24 to 0. Coach Glen Fox said his team built strong runs that helped secure the regular season sweep.  ClarksvilleNow.com
