  • Clarksville Living Magazine was honored with a nomination for Best Publication at the 29th Annual Best of Clarksville held at Governors Square Mall on October 2. The event brought together local food, activities and support for nonprofits.  Clarksville Online
  • Manna Cafe Ministries launched its 15th annual food drive, Combat Hunger, on Oct.1 and will run until Oct.25 to stock its warehouse with food for winter. Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden declared October Combat Hunger month as local groups, schools and Clarksville Fire and Rescue stations host collections—local businesses compete for a traveling Championship Belt while volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts on Oct.25.  ClarksvilleNow.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Burlington will open three new stores in Middle Tennessee—Kingsport on Oct 10, Antioch on Oct 17, and Nashville on Nov 14—and it will use a smaller, more efficient layout to enhance its current network that includes a location in Clarksville. The chain is expanding its presence across the country with more than 1,000 stores in total.  The Leaf Chronicle
  • Clarksville City Council approved the second reading of a 200-acre rezoning case Thursday night — clearing the way for Freedom Farms, a retail project with a major store near Governor's Square Mall. The rezoning shifts 98 acres to C-3, 95 acres to C-4, and 7 acres to C-5, and is expected to bring 800 jobs and increased sales tax revenue as the retailer's identity will be announced soon.  ClarksvilleNow.com

  • APSU’s Department of Art + Design and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will host a free prerelease screening and panel discussion with Art21 on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. in Room 120 of the Art + Design Building—an event open to students and local residents.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • Tony Centonze, a local photographer known for covering community events and helping local nonprofits, is nominated today for Best of Clarksville at the event held at Governors Square Mall from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.—tickets cost $10 in advance, $15 at the gate, and children under 12 may enter free.  Clarksville Online
  • Today, American Floyd performs at Downtown Commons from 7 to 10 p.m. in Clarksville. The weekend also offers Artsville Fest on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at downtown venues, International Festival on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church School, Roxy Halloween movies at Roxy Regional Theatre on Sunday at 2 p.m. for $5, and Oktoberfest at Star Spangled Taproom on Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • The Roxy Regional Theatre will host the returning Planters Bank Presents film series this October, offering $5 tickets for spooky movies on Sunday afternoons. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Austin Peay State University’s Department of Engineering Technology earned full ABET accreditation for its mechatronics concentration today with no citations—this milestone meets employer and student demands and supports military students from Fort Campbell while reaccreditation is set for 2026.  Clarksville Online
  • Master Gardeners Beth Binkley and Sarah Wade answered listener questions about fall lawn and garden issues on October 2nd, discussing vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, and garlic, the benefits of raised beds, composting, and soil tests at Lane Agri-Park. They advised residents to leave falling leaves on lawns and clean their tools to prepare for next season—using greenhouses to extend garden enjoyment.  WGNS
  • The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has partnered with Armored Trucking Academy to offer one-semester free CDL-A training for high school seniors — the program will help students graduate with a commercial driver’s license and open new career opportunities.   • City leaders will meet at Northeast Middle School in the Woodstock neighborhood at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 to present new flood protection plans—designed to address years of recurring flooding, including a February event when heavy rain froze streets and stranded residents.  WKRN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Austin Peay State University Athletics reaffirmed its commitment to student well-being with the WellPEAYple initiative that completed QPR suicide prevention training for student-athletes and staff — strengthening mental health support across the department. The program will expand resources during Suicide Awareness Month and Student-Athlete Mental Health Week in October.  Clarksville Online

  • Kirkwood High junior quarterback Miles Reding earned Player of the Week honors after throwing for 279 yards with four touchdowns in the Cobras' 49-14 win over Dickson County.
