CULTURE NEWS

  • The Department of Art and Design at APSU and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will host a free screening and discussion featuring Art21 films on October 15 at 6:00 p.m.—the event will take place in Room 120 of the Art and Design Building and is open to the public.  Clarksville Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kirkwood High School senior linebacker Elijah Fuller made history by being elected as the first student member on the CMCSS Board of Education — he will begin his duties this month to ensure student perspectives are included in board decisions.  ClarksvilleNow.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the City Council voted down a request to reconsider rezoning for a daycare center and commercial development near the Rossview school campus. The applicant may reapply with a planned unit development proposal as council members cited concerns over traffic and the impact of improvements on Rossview Road.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • TDOT began resurfacing work on I-24 east of SR 13 in Montgomery County on October 4 and will have nightly lane closures from 8:00pm until 5:00am for thermoplastic and marking work — the projects also affect I-65, I-40 and other local roads. Motorists are urged to follow reduced speed limits and plan for delays in the work zones.  Clarksville Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • Austin Peay State University women’s golf team holds second place at the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Falls at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood after completing two rounds Saturday. Coach Jessica Combs said the team battled extreme winds—fighting 12 hours of play under tough conditions—and will compete in the final round with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.  Clarksville Online
  • The Northeast Eagles hosted the Henry County Patriots on Friday night and fell 41—8 as Henry County scored multiple touchdowns, including one on a fumble return by Connor Fowlkes, while the Eagles managed only a 25‐yard touchdown and a safety.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • The APSU Govs dropped a 2-1 game to North Alabama on Thursday and will try to earn points in today's 1:00 p.m. match at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex (Conway). A win would be their first against Central Arkansas and mark head coach Kim McGowan's 50th career win, while freshman midfielder Abby Mathews, who scored her first goal, looks to lift the team.  Clarksville Online
  • On Friday night at Kenwood High, the Knights scored six rushing touchdowns in a 37 to 12 win over the Maplewood Panthers—Elijah King opened the scoring, and coach Jarhett Snead said the team will review film and train harder tomorrow.  ClarksvilleNow.com
  • Montgomery County football Week 7 saw all nine area teams play as Clarksville beat Siegel 20-7 and Kirkwood won 40-9.   • Austin Peay defeated West Georgia 44—30 on Oct. 4 as senior linebacker Will Middleton returned an interception for a 26 yard pick six to score the final touchdown, marking his first play of that kind since his high school days.  The Leaf Chronicle
