Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 15th of November.
Good morning, Clarksville.
🏘️ Community
Clarksville mourns the loss of Jeff Burkhart—a dedicated supporter who helped plan fundraisers and community events.
His kind actions and caring words made a lasting impact on many local residents.
The Smith County Humane Society is asking for donations to help keep outdoor animals warm as temperatures drop in Middle Tennessee.
The shelter needs straw, tarps, and fosters (its homes are overflowing) to protect the animals from the cold.
Cumberland Connect has announced its Connect for a Cause initiative—every new fiber internet subscription from November 13 through December 31 will generate a $20 donation for food banks in Cheatham, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart and Sumner counties.
The campaign supports local families in need this holiday season—helping ensure that more food reaches those facing hunger.
🎭 Culture
Austin Peay State University will host its 31st Bread and Words event on November 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Morgan University Center Ballroom where students and faculty will share readings and serve soup and bread—raising funds for the APSU Food Pantry to support students in need.
The Roxy Regional Theatre will host the Planters Bank Presents film series with holiday movies every Sunday in November and December — screening White Christmas on November 30 at 6:00 p.m., How the Grinch Stole Christmas on December 7 at 6:00 p.m., The Holiday on December 14 at 6:00 p.m., and The Polar Express on December 21 at 6:00 p.m. for $5 a ticket.
🎓 Education
Herzing University opened its new Clarksville campus on Nov 10 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials and community members.
The 24,000 square-foot facility now offers career-focused programs to help service members and local healthcare partners meet workforce needs.
🏛️ Government
The new hemp regulation limits THC in hemp products to 0.4 milligrams per container—impacting low-dose THC drinks in Tennessee.
Introduced by Senator Mitch McConnell, the law will take effect Nov 13 and could remove a legal loophole that now allows over 90 percent of current hemp products to be sold.
The Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library North Branch and the larger Montgomery County Animal Control facility held a grand opening recently with hundreds in attendance as county leaders, including Mayor Wes Golden, celebrated the new projects.
Library Director Christina Riedel shared long-term expansion plans—such as a mobile library project—and Animal Control Director Dave Kaske praised his team while both facilities are located on Jordan Road near the 41-A Walmart.
