Chronic wasting disease has been found in a Montgomery County deer for the first time
The Daily Clarksville team
If you hunt deer here, note this: the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed the county's first chronic wasting disease case in a hunter-harvested deer. CWD is a progressive, fatal disease of the nervous system in deer, elk, moose and other members of the deer family.

There's a perk. The Earn-a-Buck program is now available in Montgomery County. Harvest antlerless deer here and submit them for CWD testing to earn additional bucks. Hunters who already submitted antlerless deer this fall will receive an earned buck. So far this season, 950 samples have been submitted for testing statewide.
- Testing: free through certified laboratory partners
- Drop-offs: participating taxidermists, meat processors and drop-off freezers
- Carcasses: leave where harvested or dispose of responsibly
