  • The Salvation Army of Clarksville has opened a cooling center to help those at risk from extreme heat — it gives out water, meals, showers, laundry, and hygiene kits. The center is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July 1 to Aug 1 and is closed on July 4.  ClarksvilleNow.com

CRIME NEWS

  • State and local law enforcement—Clarksville Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the TWRA—are launching Operation Dry Water today through July 6 to arrest impaired boaters and enforce boating laws.  WKRN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee officials are urging parents to request the free 'Baby in the Back' hangtags through the Secretary of State—nearly 600,000 have already been requested to help prevent hot car deaths this summer. Officials say parked cars can quickly reach 140°F, so caregivers should double-check the backseat before locking up.  WGNS
  • Tennessee will hold its tax-free weekend starting at 12:01 a.m. on July 25 and ending at 11:59 p.m. on July 27 for clothing, school supplies and computers. Exempt items include clothing priced up to $100 and computers up to $1,500 — items sold in sets or priced higher will not be exempt — so shoppers should verify prices before buying.  NewsChannel 5
