The settlement resolves allegations about billing Medicare and TRICARE for services by non-physician practitioners.
Premier Medical Group, a Clarksville multi-physician practice, has agreed to pay $2.8 million to resolve allegations that it improperly billed Medicare and TRICARE. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee says that from Nov. 1, 2018, through May 31, 2023, Premier submitted claims for services performed by non-physician practitioners using physicians' National Provider Identifier numbers. The claims are allegations only, and there has been no determination of liability.
Premier says the dispute was over a coding issue it discovered, self-reported and resolved several years ago. "We opted to settle this matter rather than take on the distraction and expense of a long court process," the practice said in a statement. It says it has not agreed that any wrongdoing occurred.
